The Department of Justice has published revised ADA regulations which will require some changes to your ATMs. Valuetec is keeping very close to the regulatory changes and is dedicated to keeping you informed. You may view or download the publication from the “Department Of Justice” with the verbiage for the upcoming changes. We highly recommend you consult with your legal and compliance departments. It’s our opinion that the following is a brief overview.

Changes:

• Reach requirements: Currently, changes to the American Disabilities Act, will require ALL non drive up ATM’s to have a 48” reach requirement if installed or moved after approximately March 2012. If your ATM currently meets the previous 54” requirement, height changes aren’t required.
• Privacy/Speech Output requirements: The ADA changes, will require ALL ATMs to be capable of providing speech output. Currently, some ATM’s are able to provide speech output, some are able to be upgraded to provide speech output and some will not be upgradeable. These will need to be replaced or removed.

What we recommend:

• Wait to see what upgrade kits for specific ATM models will be available from the manufacturers.
  
• Wait to see what your network will support in terms of ATM software capable of driving speech enabled ATM,s.
  
• Schedule an appointment with Valuetec Financial Equipment, for a free inspection and inventory of your ATMs components and software levels.
  
• Determine your ATM’s upgradeability when the proper information is obtained from the manufacturers and networks. *Some ATM’s will require upgraded software, upgraded processor, text to speech hardware and hardware for the “plug in” ear piece. Again some ATMs will not be upgradeable.*
  
• Currently, it appears that ATM’s that won’t be upgradeable are: Diebold “I” series, NCR 56XX series, all Fujitsu’s and some Tritons.
